Hood is owned and run by brother and sister team Robin and Melanie Frean and Mike Brown and opened in February 2015. Since then it’s been a true family and friends effort to restore a very tired Edwardian property back to a vibrant restaurant and bar.

The food is Modern British, meaning locally sourced and seasonal British ingredients are used as well as influences from the continent. Trace-ability of the produce is important to Hood and have a provenance map on our restaurant wall so you can see where the key ingredients and drinks have come from.

They provide delicious lunch and dinner menus which a small but succinct amount of options and also cater for gluten-free, dairy-free or other diets as well as smaller meals for children. There is a great wine list which was created with help from several excellent local wine agents and they offer a selection of sparkling, reds, whites and roses from England and continental Europe. And for those beer lovers out there, they have also picked a diverse selection of refreshing and interesting beers brewed in South London and Sussex as well as spirits and soft drinks. Hood also serves tea, coffee and cakes but we would really recommend a visit for lunch or dinner.

Opening hours

  • Monday – closed.
  • Tuesday to Friday – open for lunch between 12 – 2pm and dinner from 5.30pm until 11pm.
  • Saturdays – open for brunch between 10am – 3pm (last reservation time: 2.30pm) and dinner from 5.30pm until 11pm.
  • Sundays – open for brunch between 10am – 4pm (last reservation time: 2.30pm).
